| FISHERMAN'S CAMP, NAIVASHA, KENYA - AN INEXPENSIVE HOME-FROM-HOME BASE FOR AFRICAN WILDLIFE VIEWING Fisherman's Camp is located on Lake Naivasha in the Great Rift Valley, approximately 60 miles north of Nairobi. There's a wealth of bird-life on the lake, (plus hippo!), and nearby Hell's Gate National Park, famous for it's towering cliffs, spectacular scenery and geothermals, harnessed to provide the Rift Valley's electricity. Also close-by is the extinct volcano, Mount Longonot, Green Crater Lake, a privately-owned game-sanctuary with inexpensive public access, and "Elsamere", the former home of Joy Adamson, open daily to the public for visits and afternoon tea. Lake Nakuru National Park, renown for it's vast flocks of greater and lesser pink flamingo, is an hour's drive away, while Lake Bogoria National Reserve, Amboseli National Park, the Masai Mara National Reserve, (famous for it's wildebeest migration from July to September), and Samburu National Reserve, are all within a reasonable travelling distance. Fisherman's Camp extends from the grassy, acacia-shaded shoreline, to the top of the hill 100 meters above the lake. The bottom camp is primarily for campers and back-packers, while the bandas on the top camp offer a tranquil retreat with superlative views over the lake 600' below. There's also a restaurant/bar down by the lakeshore, which is open all day for a range of inexpensive home-cooked meals. | FISHERMAN'S CAMP SELF-CATERING COTTAGES: Karibu Cottage, located on the hill above the lake near the owner's own house, is available to rent privately, sleeps four and costs £300 per week or £500 for a fortnight. Kwasi located further up the hill beyond the owner's house with scenic lake views sleeps up to six and costs £250 per week, and Kuzungu, a lovely lakeshore cottage situated on the bottom camp. To facilitate your arrival and subsequent departure, the owner of Fisherman's Camp will meet you on your arrival in Nairobi and return you to Nairobi at the end of your stay for a fee of £100. Day trips into Hell's Gate National Park, to Lake Nakuru or the Aberdares, or a safari can also be arranged at extra cost.
